What are Survey Questions?
Survey questions are a key part of how ThruText campaigns, also known as assignments, collect meaningful data. Survey questions help your team understand how contacts are responding - what they care about, what they’re interested in, and how they might want to engage next.
This guide describes how to view and record survey responses in the messenger as you receive responses to your text messages. To read more about how to create survey questions from the admin dashboard, refer to our guide: Survey Questions.
How to Select Survey Responses
To select survey responses, go to the texting interface, also known as the Messenger. Click Messenger at the top right of your screen to see all your active assignments, and then click on an assignment.
In the Messenger, you can click on the Survey tab on the right side of the screen to view and record responses.
You can preview survey questions before sending messages, but you won’t be able to fill them out until all initial messages have been sent.
There are four different types of survey questions:
- Yes/No: a yes/no question (e.g., "Will you go to the event?")
- Multiple Choice (pick one): Contacts choose one answer from a list (e.g., Which issue matters most to you?).
- Freeform: Texters type out a response (e.g., "Notes" or "Email Address").
- Checkboxes (pick many): Allows more than one answer to be selected from a list (e.g., Which days are you available to volunteer?).
Yes/No
You can select either Yes or No. Once selected, the response can’t be cleared, only changed.
Multiple Choice (pick one)
You can only pick one survey response, and you won't be able to unselect it, only change it.
Circular buttons, also known as radio buttons, indicate that you can only pick one answer.
Checkboxes (pick many)
These questions allow you to select more than one response.
Square buttons indicate a checkbox, which means you can select more than one question.
Freeform
Freeform questions let you type a custom response. Unlike other question types, your response won’t be saved automatically, you must click Save.
Freeform questions have a maximum character limit of 2,000 characters.
