Carrier verification of use cases
In February 2023, carriers implemented manual verification for use case registration in an effort to reduce spam and increase text message deliverability. This process must be completed to obtain an approved use case and ThruText campaigns can't be launched without an approved use case. This process can take 1-8 business days, so it's essential to account for this in your texting timeline. In this guide, we'll provide some details about the process as well as links to the requirements so you can navigate this process smoothly and successfully.
What is "manual vetting"?
Manual vetting is the process in which a third-party vetting team ensures that an organization's website passes certain criteria. This step comes after you submit your Use Case Registration.
What are carriers checking for?
Carriers review your website to ensure they contain the following:
- Contact Source: A contact source, or an opt-in mechanism, is a form on your website where a contact opts in to receiving text messages.
- Privacy Policy: A policy that discloses how user information is collected, used, and shared.
- Terms & Conditions: A section that describes your organization's terms and conditions for mobile text messaging.
We created this quiz to help you determine if your website fulfills the requirements for manual vetting: 10DLC Manual Vetting Requirements.
Is opt-in required to send texts?
While carriers only accept use case registration from organizations with opt-in forms, this doesn't mean that you can only text people who opt in. Opt-in is not a requirement for ThruText.
Already Registered?
If your organization already registered its Use Case before manual vetting was required, Account Owners will be prompted to enter the organization's URL when navigating to the Brand & Use Case Registration page, as pictured below. Please link to your main site homepage.
While previously registered use cases remain active, we recommend updating your organization's website to follow 10DLC website standards. Please reach out to support@getthru.io with any questions about your current use case or to check if your website complies with the most recent 10DLC guidelines.
How long does manual vetting take?
The manual vetting process has two stages.
- Preliminary Review (time varies): The first stage consists of an initial review by GetThru Staff to ensure that it passes the manual vetting requirements. Reviews will be completed within 1-2 hours of submission during normal GetThru Support Hours. If the requirements have been met, GetThru submits your registration to the third-party vetting team. If not, account owners will receive an email detailing what requirements are missing. The timeline for this process can vary depending on the requirements being met and how long it takes to update your website to meet the requirements.
- Third-Party Vetting (1-8 business days): The second stage of manual vetting occurs when GetThru submits your registration to the third party vetting team. The third party vetting team estimates that a vetting outcome will take 1-8 business days.
How do I know when manual vetting is complete?
GetThru will send you e-mails to help track your use case status. You can also check the status indicator next to the use case on the use case registration form.
- Preliminary Review: After submitting use case registration from the application, GetThru manually reviews the registration. On the Brand & Use Case Registration page in the application, you will see a yellow flag that says Pending to indicate GetThru's preliminary review.
- Third-Party Vetting: Once the registration is submitted to the third-party manual vetting team, you will receive an e-mail that says "Use Case is in Manual Vetting", and the yellow flag will change to Registered. Depending on the outcome, you will receive an e-mail that says the use case was accepted or failed, and the pill will change to Approved or Failed.

What happens if my use case fails manual vetting?
If your use case has been rejected, please reach out to support@getthru.io for details on the rejection reason. We will provide guidance on resolving the issues and appeal the rejection. Please be aware that an appealed rejection will restart the manual vetting timeline and add an additional 1-8 business days to the approval process.
