Adding and Archiving Media for MMS Messages

Admins and Account owners control what media can be added to an account. In the media library, admins manage what images can be attached to use cases and MMS campaigns through adding and archiving media.

NOTE - Media must be added to the Media Library before it can be added to a Use Case.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Adding Media to Your Media Library

To add your media, first, open the "Media Library" in the ThruText Tools drop-down:

Then, click "+ Add media to library":

After clicking "+ Add media to library," a window will appear, and you can choose a file or drag and drop your media. The supported file types include:

  • PNG
  • GIF
  • MP4
  • MOV
  • MPG
  • WEB
  • PDF

The Media Library restricts the maximum size for compressed media at 750KB, because some major carriers block MMS messages that include media exceeding that limit. However, the upload limit for media is higher at 10MB as our system works to compress a file to under the 750KB limit. This is done through a transcoding process, or converting and compressing, when a file is uploaded to fit the messaging system standards.

Once media is successfully uploaded, you can close the pop-up dialog box. If the final compressed version still exceeds 750KB, the uploaded file will show a failed error message.

For PDFs, unlike the other media types that display an image of the media as a thumbnail image, these files will display with a default placeholder image. However, the uploaded PDF is viewable by clicking on the vertical dots and clicking on "Open" for the media and the PDF will be viewable within the device it is sent to.

NOTE - To learn more about video MMS, check out our guide: Video MMS in ThruText.

For help with resizing your images to maintain your original proportions, check out our Resizing Your Images tips. If your video is too large to upload (greater than 10MB), please review our decreasing the size of your video file tips.

After Adding Your First Image

For US accounts, after adding your first image, you will be prompted to add it to your 10DLC use case. A Use Case sample image is required to be able to send MMS messages in the United States.

Archiving Media Items

When media is archived, it can no longer be selected during campaign creation. To archive something:

  • Open the Media Library
  • Locate the media you would like to archive
  • Click the three vertical dots at the top right of the media's box
  • Select "Archive"

Only admins and account owners can make changes to the Media Library. To change a user's permission levels refer to our guide on managing a user's permissions.
